Our intent within the Physical Education Department at Pearling Season International is to offer equal opportunities to students of all abilities to participate, succeed and excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. Our mission is to help all students find enjoyment through physical activity and inspire them to strive to be the best they can be.
We aim to promote a learning environment where students are not afraid to make mistakes and recognise that resilience and perseverance are the keys to success. Our mission is also to educate students about the physical and mental health benefits of leading a healthy, active lifestyle with the hope that students will continue to engage in physical activity throughout their lives. In addition, through our broad and balanced curriculum, we aim to embed the essential values of fairness and respect.
All students at PSI have the opportunity to experience a wide range of different sports and physical activities, both during curriculum time and through the diverse range of extra-curricular opportunities available. PE staff who delivers lessons and clubs whom themselves have experience as professional and semi-professional athletes.
The programme of study at KS3 is in line with the UK National Curriculum. It allows students to build on and embed the physical skills learned in key stages 1 and 2 and become more competent, confident and expert in their techniques. Students are taught to use various tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games. In practical lessons, students are physically active for sustained periods, and we encourage our students to be self-critical and reflective learners.
IGCSE PE is delivered in line with the Cambridge International 9-1 specification. Students are assessed on their practical performance in four sports and their performance in one written exam at the end of year 11.
At the PSI, participation in extra-curricular sports is strongly encouraged, rewarded, and celebrated. We have developed strong links with local sports clubs, and students also have the opportunity to meet inspirational sportspeople.
We have great resources creating a comfortable environment for our students to enjoy learning in. Our classrooms are well-equipped and cozy with suitable lighting to help enhance students’ focus.
Extracurricular activities help with reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, enhance their social skills and allow students to further explore or apply academic skills in a real-world context.
One of the highlights at PSI is the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) department where students with ALN are taught within a group of expert teachers all qualified to deal with students with special needs.
